Chelsea Football Club closed their 2023 summer transfer business with a bang as they completed the signing of an attack minded player.
The Blues confirmed the signing of Cole Palmer on its official website on Friday, September 1, 2023. Chelsea were desperate for a player who could fill in the gap left by Christopher Nkunku who suffered an injury during the preseason games.
Chelsea reportedly paid £50m to Manchester City who signed a seven-year deal which will most likely keep at the club until the 2030 summer transfer window with an option to extend by an extra year.
Cole Palmer expressed his excitement on joining Chelsea on the club's website. According to him he joined the Blues because of the project of the club.
"I am excited to get started and it feels great to sign. I joined Chelsea because the project here sounds good and because of the platform I will try to showcase ny talents. It is a young and hungry squad and, hopefully, we can do something here."
He thanked Manchester City for the support that was showed to him since he joined the club at the age of seven.
"Man City have been part of my life for 15 years and it is all I have known since the age of 6. Thank you to Pep Guardiola and his staff for the opportunity to play for this amazing club and giving me the opportunity only a few can dream of. I will be forever grateful."
The arrival of the English international means Todd Boehly-Clearlake Capital ownership will have spent £1.02bn. It will also take their spending this summer alone to £419m. In over five years and 11 transfer windows under Mauricio Pochettino, Spurs only spent £412m.
